DLP Drives the Pace

DLP Racing wrapped up its first spring training camp by testing out the legs at the 10th annual NC State Criterium. The course is a short 1k circuit that features a short climb and a quick double chicane on the back side of the course. The guys started out the day with an easy spin before the race to get the legs moving after logging a few hundred miles in the previous few days training. With this being the first race of the season for most of the field attacks came almost immediately. Within about 8 laps a small group of 8 had established about a 20 second lead on the field. That group contained both Thad Dulin and Spencer Beamer from DLP Racing. Within a few laps the group had almost a 1/2 lap on the field. Thad attacked the break on the front side of the course and set off to lap the field. The rest of the break was not able to match Thad’s acceleration as he rocketed toward the back end of the field. Meanwhile back in the break (now down to 7) Spencer Beamer was extremely attentive while covering the many attacks that came from the group. As Thad reached the back end of the main field the entire DLP team came to the front of the field and turned on the afterburners. With the entire team lined up on the font of the race the speed went up to well over 50k an hour…. and it stayed there for the rest of the race. With just a few laps the team scooped up the reaming riders from the day’s original early break. With the team now having Thad one lap up on the rest of the field they proceeded to ride the remaining 38 laps on the front of the field. The team kept the pace so high that no rider could even thing about attacking. As the bell lap approached the team decided to set up Spencer Beamer for the second place sprint. With one lap to go Owen Nielsen came through on the font of the field with Thad and Spencer tucked in on his wheel. Owen peeled off with 400 meters to go and Thad took Spencer inside of 100 meters to the line. Spencer was able to out-sprint a hard charging David Fuentes (Rockville Harley Davidson) for second place. The team’s effort was fantastic and the strategy was textbook. The team couldn’t have asked for a better way to wrap up its first training camp.
