In this issue of the Mechanic’s Corner we will take a look at Hugh Moran’s spare bike. The Riders on the Kane Bikes / Nccycling.com team have the option to choose from a variety of frames styles. Many of the team members (almost 85%) choose the K Team Carbon. The K Team Carbon offers a great mix of weight, performance, and ride comfort. The front end of the bike is built from tripple butted U6 alloy. The frame tubing is specially drawn for Jack Kane Bicycles. The rear chain and seat stays are built from high modulus 3K carbon. The fusion of an alloy front triangle with a carbon rear end provides great ride comfort for riders that are often putting in 6+ hour rides. All of the team bikes are built with a low head tube height to allow the riders to achieve the proper racing position. The fork on the bike is a 1 1/8″ full carbon model that offers a deep aero profile along

with a full carbon steer tube. The fork weighs in at around 370 grams. For 2007, the team has switched to SRAM Components. This is the first year on the market for the SRAM product and it has preformed flawlessly over the first 1/3 of the season. All of the riders really seem to enjoy the new Double Tap shifting system. The team also uses a variety Wiliams Wheels for racing and training. The wheel shown here is the Wheels System 30X. The wheels system 30x has a few more spokes than the standard 30 model and also features a slightly more bladed spoke. This wheel is great for Training and Crits but is often replaced by the Wheel System 19 for hilly races where a super light wheel is needed. All of our Williams Wheels feature hybrid ceramic bearings and roll like butter. If you have not had the chance to ride ceramic bearings in your wheels you should try it - the change is very noticable. Thomson provides the best seatpost and stems for all the team’s racing and training bikes. For more deails check out the full specs listed below allong with more photos.
